On the Dock
of Life |
Standing on the dock of
life |
Then one bright morning |
Watching the ships and
the tide. |
Appears a magnificient
yacht. |
Would I ever get on one |
I decide that this is the
one |
And take a long ride? |
With which I'll cast my
lot. |
Many have come and gone |
So I mount the gangplank |
And yet here I stand. |
So confident and bold. |
I would love to get on
board, |
You'll never do says the
Captain, |
And depart this dry land. |
You're too old. |
As each loads its
supplies, |
As I left the dock, |
And gets ready to leave
the dock, |
All dejected and sad, |
I falter and hesitate, |
I realized that I was |
And look at the clock. |
No younger a young lad. |
By the time I make up my
mind, |
Then I saw with an
insight |
It has already set sail. |
Instantly strong and
sure, |
But the very next one, |
I should have taken an
earlier ship |
I'll catch without fail. |
And just enjoyed the
adventure. |
